Let's build something awesome.
Robots are taking over the Alachua Branch. We need back up. Are there any children up for a challenge?
Building robots is cool and fun. We're not talking rocket science, we're talking Legos! If you've built with Legos then you can build these robots!
This event is geared toward Elementary and Middle Schoolers. It is a 3 class series, each class building on the previous class. Our goal is to demystify robots and build childrens confidence.
In the first session, we will work together to build a Lego robot with 14 Lego pieces. Pieces include 2 motors, 2 wheels, 2 rods, 2 arms, and 4 connector pieces. We will also have a brief instruction on how to program the robot to move forward which will take 10 minutes. Then the children will have the opportunity to build a robot of their own.
In the second session, we will learn to not only program our robots to move forward, but to turn left or right. This will only take about 10 minutes. Then the children will have the opportunity to try our first Lego Mindstorm challenge. The challenge will be, can the robot they created move along a path in the shape of a square.
In the third session, we will learn more programming skills to participate in the third challenge. The challenge will be a robot tug of war. They will get to see which robot has the strongest design.
