Develop a sense of self-control and discipline with this traditional Brazilian Martial Arts program this summer at the Library.
What is this event?
A demonstration of Capoeira.
What is Capoeira?
It's many things. Foremost, it is an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that incorporates both physical and mental strength. It was created by African slaves in Brazil 500 years ago. The slaves needed a way to defend themselves while at the same time making sure others didn't know they were training. How does one learn self defense without it looking like self defense? Through music and dance.
