Are you looking for an activity where you can simply Zen out and not have to be social? Why not stop by the Alachua Branch library and try our art challenge. Starting June through July, we will offer an Art Challenge Kit at the front desk that will offer a different challenge each week.
What's in the Art Challenge Kit:
Art Supplies
1 sheet of paper
1 Elmer’s glue bottle
3 markers (colors will be part of the mystery)
2 crayons (colors will be part of the mystery)
8 Popsicle sticks
Scissors
A Ziploc baggie of assorted scrap paper
5 pipe cleaners
A roll of duct tape
Art material
This is where the challenge comes in. You will get 1 mystery item that you will need to figure out how to incorporate into your master piece.
Example: a ball of yarn
How can you possibly make a work of art out of yarn? Easy! You could use the scrap paper to cut out the letter "D." Glue the "D" onto paper sideways. Then cut the yarn into short pieces before gluing onto the flat edge of the letter "D." It will look like an octopus.
(Fairly certain your octopus won't look like a sad jelly fish.)
Each week will be a different mystery material.
How to use our kits:
Stop by the front desk of the Alachua Branch Library. Let us know that you want to use one of the Art Challenge Kits. We will provide you with the kit which you will then take to the Snuggle-Up center. Have a seat at the covered tables and look over the items in the kit. It will be up to you to decide how they can go together.
If you see another person working on a kit, you cannot ask to trade items. You don't have to use all the art supplies given but you must only use the items in your kit.
Time:
Art should never be rushed.
You are free to stop in any time between 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays. You can make something in 5 minutes, an hour, or even two hours. How long you wish to work on it depends solely on you.
It's made, now what?:
Once you've completed your project you can either take it home, give it to someone you love as a gift, or pass it along to a librarian. Any unwanted artwork will be displayed at the Alachua Branch until July 31st. Come August it will go to art heaven.
