Garreth Smoak, author of the cookbook, "Nutritious and Delicious in Florida", will demonstrate a seasonal recipe for you to taste and discuss the nutritional aspects of how food affects your body.
Migrating from her native South Carolina, Garreth Smoak earned both a Bachelors of Science at Erskine College and Masters of Science at the University of Florida in Athletic Training. She is a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), licensed Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and credentialed in the “Exercise is Medicine” program from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). She is a recent graduate from Santa Fe College Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program and is now a licensed PTA at ReQuest Physical Therapy.
For nearly a decade, Garreth has been an Exercise Specialist in an outpatient orthopedic physical therapy practice, intricately involved with the Physicians' Choice for Weight Loss (PCWL), a physician-referred behavior modification healthy lifestyle program. The recipes used in her book, "Nutritious and Delicious in Florida" are utilized in PCWL and have a proven track record of changing people’s lives for the better, helping them to lose weight and increasing their vitality.
Recipes have changed Garreth’s life as well, generating the health and energy for her to accomplish feats she never dreamed. She has mountain climbed the United States and Canadian Rockies, backpacked parts of the Appalachian Trail, and wind surfed. Her favorite activities are biking and spending time with nieces and nephews.
