Discover Florida History with local talent, Lola Haskins, Poet. Artist. Human Being.
Join Lola as she reveals what she discovered when she researched her non-fiction work Fifteen Florida Cemeteries: Strange Tales Unearthed. With a poet's awareness, she’ll introduce us to some of the state's most fascinating cemeteries and share stories of their even more fascinating occupants. In the course of her talk, you’ll meet Napoleon’s nephew, a murderer, one of the flying Wallendas, a racehorse, a pioneering botanist and, strangest of all, a doctor who dug up the woman he loved because he believed he could reconstitute her.
Lola Haskins is a multi-award-winning poet. Most recently, she won the 2023 Southern Literary Review's Book of the Year for her work Homelight. She is also an outdoor enthusiast, environmental activist, singer, and writing coach. Locally, she has collaborated with composers, musicians, dancers, and choreographers from Dance Alive! and the Hippodrome.
