Join bestselling author/illustrator Nikkolas Smith at the Headquarters Library! Attendees will draw their own superheroes as he gives a demonstration and will have a chance to present them.
Bestselling author and illustrator Nikkolas Smith will present a Draw Your Own Superhero Workshop (60 min). This event is presented in collaboration with, and support from, Special Collections at the University of Florida Smathers Libraries. The event is geared toward children, but all ages are welcome.
Nikkolas will speak to the participants about his journey as an artist and his relationship with Superheroes. He will talk about his work on superhero movies and re-imagining superheroes for apparel and books. He will discuss what a superhero is and how we can all be superheroes. Participants will create their own superhero (based on a self-portrait or a superhero or a specific character they want to focus on). Nikkolas will guide attendees with some tips while he draws something as well. Participants will have an opportunity to show their Superhero and share what inspired them to create it.
Nikkolas Smith is an Artivist, picture book author, and Hollywood film illustrator. He is the author-illustrator of the USA TODAY bestselling picture book The Artivist, The History of We, The Golden Girls of Rio, and My Hair Is Poofy & That’s Okay. He also illustrated the picture books A Change Is Gonna Come, Captain America: Brave New World: A Hero Looks Like You, I Am Ruby Bridges, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: The Courage to Dream, That Flag, and the #1 New York Times bestselling The 1619 Project: Born on the Water. Nikkolas speaks on his Artivism and leads digital painting workshops at conferences, workplaces, and schools around the world. Nikkolas was born in Houston, Texas, and now lives in Los Angeles, California.
