Learn how to create games for the PICO-8 platform.
The Gainesville Creative Computing Club (GCCC) is back with an 8-Bit Game Design Workshop!
Join us for an afternoon of creative exploration! We’ll be creating 8-bit style games with the PICO-8 platform, a fantasy console for making, playing, and sharing tiny video games.
We’ll look at parts of classic 8-bit games to explore how mechanics, rules, challenge, and player experience come together to shape fun and emotion, and use those insights to inspire your own creations. Then, design and tweak your own mini-game using PICO-8’s tools for sprite editing, sound design, and code modification, and share it with others in a fun and supportive environment.
No programming experience necessary — templates and guidance will be provided. Artists, musicians, hackers, gamers, storytellers, students, educators, and curious beginners — all are welcome!
A limited number of laptops are available. Participants are free to bring their own laptops if they like. Please register in order to reserve your spot.
