America 250: Stitching the Revolution
Wednesday, July 01
All day
Throughout the month of July, visit the Archer Branch Meeting Room to see modern quilts and learn about quilting in America. Create artwork based on quilting at the self-guided art activity stations.
Quilts during the U.S. Revolution era (late 18th century) were rarely the patchwork style commonly imagined, but rather functional, often made of expensive imported fabrics or, later, homespun cloth. They served as vital expressions of patriotism, with women using needlework to support independence, setting the stage for a uniquely American quilting style to evolve post-war.
Visit the Archer Meeting Room to see modern quilts and learn about quilting in America. The Meeting Room is closed during programs.
