An escape room adventure at the Alachua Branch Library!
If you never tried an escape room game you're in for a treat! Escape room games are a physical adventure where players work together to solve puzzles using clues and whatever strategy works best. To add to the challenge, players are given a set time to solve the solution that will lead to the key out. There is no grand prize, just the thrill of being able to outsmart the designers of the room and be the first to escape the room before the other teams do.
Breakout of the Haunted House
It was a warm and quiet night, as two teens sat off to the side of the library’s front doors. Will was scrolling through a Youtube feed, while Peter drank his big gulp. Strangely, so out of place, they heard a moan.
“Was that you,” Peter asked.
“What was me?”
“That sound…?”
They stood still, listening harder. There was a shuffling noise and heavy breathing. They looked at each other. Then the noises stopped. They lifted their heads, above them was a sign that read, “Alachua Branch Library,” and a dark window.
“I think there’s someone in there,” Will said.
The street lights flickered but stayed on, mostly. Will smacked Peter on the chest, pointing to a shadow moving across the window above their heads. They stood up to peer inside. That’s when they saw a Thing. A rotting Thing, its jaw bone dangling as it whispered, “Where’s my toe?”
Plot:
There’s a Thing locked in the library. Do you dare to find out what it is? Inspired by the stories told in “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” comes the Alachua’s Branch’s Haunted House. You have 20 minutes to sort out the clues and find the key to set you free before the creature finds you!
Don’t get distracted.
How many players can play at a time?
Each session lasts for 30 minutes, so there will be 3 opportunities to try out the game. But we'll take as many people, each time, as we can fit in the room.

3:00 pm to 3:10 pm: Introduction to the game
3:10 pm to 3:30 pm: Game starts!
Afterwards, feel free to hang out in the Snuggle Up area. There will be a selection of spooky stories on display for your enjoyment.
Second session:
Tuesday, October 22,
3:30 pm to 3:40 pm: Introduction to the game
3:40 pm to 4:00 pm: Game starts!
Afterward, feel free to hang out in the Snuggle Up area and participate in our "Read with a Dog" program.
Third session:
Tuesday, October 22,
4:00 pm to 4:10 pm: Introduction to the game
4:10 pm to 4:30 pm: Game starts!
If you arrive early, drop by the Snuggle Up area, browse through our spooky stories display or participate in our "Read with a Dog" program while you wait.
"Can I come without a reservation?"
Of course, because there's no reservation necessary! Come have a good time. Either to try out the game or to simply enjoy the spooky items we have on display.
