Emmy Award winner and Latin Grammy award nominee, and now Latin Grammy Award winner and UF music professor, José Valentino Ruiz plays Latin Jazz.
EMMY® Award Winner and 3-time GRAMMY® Award Nominee artist-music producer-audio engineer, Dr. José Valentino Ruiz, is an internationally-acclaimed recording and performing artist,, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, missionary, and educator known for his passionate performances, versatility, and fluid expression on the flute, saxophone, bass, and Latin percussion.
As a prolific recording artist, producer, and composer, José Valentino has produced 15 solo albums within the traditions of contemporary jazz. Currently, José Valentino is working on an innovative album, "The Global Funk" which features his extraordinary musicianship on multiple instruments and compositions that infuse powerful lyrics sung by José in Mandarin, Swahili, Spanish, Hindi, Zulu, and more.
As a college professor, José served as Instructor of Record (2013 - 2016) for numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in commercial music subjects at the University of South Florida. From August 2016 to May 2019, Dr. Ruiz transition to Cleveland, TN to serve as Assistant Professor of Music Business, Production, and Jazz at Lee University. In August 2019, Dr. Ruiz transitioned back to Florida to become the Head of Music Business & Entrepreneurship at the University of Florida. His passion is cultivating artistic identity and entrepreneurialism among aspiring professionals to become leaders within the globally-expanding music industry. José Valentino’s students have become leaders in the music business.
