Legos is 86 years old.
You could use your grandparents Lego bricks from the 1950s to interlock with Lego bricks today.
Lego comes from the first two letters of the Danish words "Leg" "Godt" meaning "well played."
In 2009 James May, who lives in Great Britain, built the world's first full-size Lego house using 3.3 million bricks. Even his toilet is made out of Legos.
Random facts aside, building with Legos is a valuable skill for children. The pieces fit comfortably in one's hand. You can piece them together and you can take them apart to start again. When you see a child building with Lego's they are always deep in thought, problem-solving and working out a solution to best make a car that rolls or a house that is well supported.
At the Alachua Branch, children can learn with Legos. Some days we may present challenges such as Ring Toss, Bowling, Hidden Memory Games, Boat Experiments, and more. Other days we will offer free build where children can let their imaginations run wild and make whatever their hearts desire.
There will always be something for children to build Wednesday afternoons!
