Staff will be releasing butterflies from our caterpillar display in Youth Services.
The Florida Museum of Natural History donated eggs to the Library for children to observe the life cycle stages of butterflies native to Florida. After caterpillars hatched, they ate the pssionflower vines to grow. Then they crafted their chrysalises to change into butterflies in a process called metamorphosis. When they emerge, and their wings have had a chance to dry, they are released into the courtyard behind the library to rejoin the ecosystem.
