Staff will be releasing butterflies from our caterpillar display in Youth Services.
The Florida Museum of Natural History donated caterpillars to the Library for children to observe the life cycle stages of butterflies native to Florida. After caterpillars hatched, they ate the passionflower vines to grow. They then crafted their chrysalises to change into butterflies in a process called metamorphosis. When they emerged, and their wings have had a chance to dry, they were released in the courtyard in front of the library to rejoin the ecosystem.
